The growler is a device which is used for finding out shorts
in the generator or cranking motor armatures.
The
growler is connected to the main supply and the armature to be tested is placed on the growler.
An
old hacksaw blade is placed on the top of the armature.
Rotated
the armature for locating the short-circuit.
When
the blade vibrates, it shows short-circuit in that section of the armature and
this must be rectified or replaced.
The
growler works on the principle of electromagnetism.
